The Drummer Boy of Olustee and Other Short Stories is a collection of eight adventure stories based on history. The first story tells how a 14-year-old boy joined the army during the Civil War and was soon immersed in combat during the Battle of Olustee, in Florida. Other tales include; a Floridian who joins the Royal Flying Corps during the First World War, a story about the death of Stonewall Jackson, and a secret mission in the Pacific during World War II. But, not all of the tales deal with war themes. For instance, one tells of the inspirational story of how Glenn Cunningham overcame a handicap as a boy to become an Olympic track star. Although these stories are ideal reading for teenage boys, anyone interested in military history will enjoy the collection. Indeed, these stories are both entertaining and educational.
